Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before getting started
What age can children start piano lessons?
expand_more
Children can begin from age 5. At this age, lessons focus on rhythm, listening, and short melodies that make music feel playful rather than academic. The earliest years are widely recognised as the most formative for musical development — the foundations built between 5 and 8 stay with a child for life. If you are still wondering whether your child is ready, try the readiness assessment above.
Does my child need a piano or keyboard at home before starting?
expand_more
No — a basic keyboard is enough to begin, and you do not need to buy anything before the first lesson. Many families start with an entry-level 61-key keyboard and upgrade as their child's commitment grows. Riddhita is happy to recommend suitable instruments at any budget during your first consultation.
How long before my child can play a real song?
expand_more
Most children play their first recognisable melody within the first two or three lessons. Within a term, they are typically reading simple notation and performing short pieces from memory. Progress depends on home practice, but even 10 minutes a day makes a real difference — and the moment a child plays their first song is one of the most motivating experiences in their musical journey.
What styles of music will my child learn — only classical?
expand_more
Not at all. While classical technique forms the foundation — because it builds the strongest physical and musical grounding — Riddhita always chooses repertoire to match the student's tastes. Children regularly play film scores, pop arrangements, folk songs, and pieces from video games alongside classical works. When students love what they are practising, progress is faster and far more consistent.
Do you teach complete beginners with no musical background?
expand_more
Absolutely. The majority of new students arrive with no prior knowledge — no ability to read music, no experience with any instrument, and no musical family background. That is completely fine. The starting point is always wherever the student is, and Riddhita builds every lesson from that starting point. The only thing needed to begin is curiosity.
What if my child loses interest after a few lessons?
expand_more
Some resistance is completely normal — particularly once the initial excitement settles and the work begins. Riddhita's approach keeps lessons varied, engaging, and connected to music the child already loves, which helps motivation stay strong through those early weeks. If genuine disinterest develops, you are only committed to the current block of eight lessons. Often, what looks like lost interest is simply a need for a different piece of music or a change of approach — something that can usually be resolved in a single conversation.
Will there be parent-teacher meetings?
expand_more
Yes, absolutely! I believe a strong partnership between us is key to your child's success. For my junior students, I hold quarterly parent-teacher meetings to discuss your child's progress, celebrate their achievements, and set goals for our time together.
When and how should I pay the class fee?
expand_more
To secure your spot, I kindly ask that fees be paid before our sessions begin. Each payment covers a block of eight classes. After you have made your payment, please send me a quick screenshot for confirmation.
Can I reschedule a class?
expand_more
I understand that life can be unpredictable. You can reschedule one class per month, as long as you give at least 24 hours' notice. The makeup session needs to be completed within two weeks of the original date to keep the learning momentum going.
What happens if Riddhita has to cancel a class?
expand_more
While I do my best to be present for every lesson, if I ever need to cancel I will always make the session up within the month at the earliest opportunity. Your child's progress is my priority.
Can I pause my classes for a while?
expand_more
I understand that sometimes a long break is needed. In special circumstances, I am happy to hold your class slot for up to one month. When you are ready to return, we will work together on a case-by-case basis to find a suitable time slot for you.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
expand_more
I am always happy to help! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me directly. My goal is to make sure you have all the information you need to feel comfortable and confident in your decision.
